Type: Fully Cellular Containership

Incident: Grounding

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “SONGA IRIDIUM”, a 2008 built 23,633gt Fully Cellular Containership which ran aground 27th December 2019 whilst transiting the Bosphorus Straits.

It is understood that the Vessel, which was on a fully laden voyage from Odessa, Ukraine, to Constanza, Romania, may have suffered an engine malfunction which resulted in the grounding.

The Vessel has been re-floated with the assistance of a number of tugs and is currently at Istanbul Anchorage awaiting full inspection.
