Incident Date: 31st January 2019

Vessel: APL VANCOUVER

IMO No. 9597472

Type: Containership

Incident: Fire

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “APL VANCOUVER”, a 2013 built 109,712 gt fully cellular container ship. Having previously called at India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia Singapore and various Chinese ports the vessel caught light whilst steaming to Vietnam

Photographs suggest the fire started near the accommodation block and company reports suggest ignition was in one of the cargo holds. There is a Vietnamese Coast Guard vessel in attendance to control the fire whilst professional salvors steam to the site.

Salvors have been contracted however, it would appear the salvage operation will be undertaken under independent terms as no LOF has been issued; General Average is very feasible at this time.
