W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the GOLDEN STAR 1, a Tanzania Flag, 1,479GT, 216TEU, general cargo with container capacity vessel, which sank after taking on water in the Singapore Strait near Batam Island, Indonesia on 5th June 2026, whilst en route to Malaysia.

Fortunately, all 9 crew members on the GOLDEN STAR 1 were successfully rescued.

We understand that the GOLDEN STAR 1 was carrying 107 containers and that the Singapore Strait remains operational although alerts have been issued to other vessels to report any drifting containers.

We further understand that authorities are currently investigating the cause of this casualty and its environmental impact.

The GOLDEN STAR 1 is owned by Pancon Panama Incorporated and managed by Pancon Shipping & Marine Services Private Limited. She traded in Singapore and Pasir Gudang, Malaysia.

As a result of this casualty, cargo interests will look to pursue Recovery Claims for their cargo losses.
