W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the MIN JIANG KOU, a Marshall Islands Flag, 72,255GT, 199.90m, 2024 built, vehicle carrier, enroute from Tianjin, China to Manta, Ecuador, which suffered an engine room fire near Costa Rica’s Pacific coast on 6th August 2026.

The MIN JIANG KOU’s crew attempted to extinguish the fire and were later ordered to abandon her. Fortunately, all 22 crew members were rescued by a nearby vessel.

We understand that professional Salvors at Resolve Marine have been engaged on commercial terms to provide assistance with repairs and safe recovery of the MIN JIANG KOU.

The MIN JIANG KOU is owned Xiang H91 International Ship Lease Company and operated by COSCO Shipping Lines Company Limited. She calls at various ports in Asia, African and Europe.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries may be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average security prior to cargo being released at destination.
