W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the NAVIOS VERMILION, a Marshall Islands flag, 39,906GT fully cellular containership which experienced leakage of fuel oil into the cargo holds whilst berthed at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 25th August 2026
The vessel, which has a capacity of 4,250teu is owned by Velour Management Corporation Incorporated in the Marshall Islands and is operated by ONE on their LUX service between South America and Europe. She had previously called into Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil and was destined for Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Spain.
It is understood that as a result of the incident Salvors are in the process of removing affected containers and cleaning the Vessel, and that on 3rd September 2026 Owners declared General Average.
Cargo Owners/Insurers will be required to provide General Average Security before their cargoes will be released.
As a result of this incident cargo deliveries will be delayed, with some cargoes known to have been affected by fuel oil contamination.
