We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “ALEX”, a 2016 built 154,379gt crude oil tanker. Having previously called at Galveston, USA and intending to steam to Ningbo, PRC, the vessel ran aground to the east of Pulau Belitung, Indonesia.

It is reported the vessel ran aground on a soft mud bottom however no hull breach, water ingress or mechanical failure has been reported. As of 17th April, 6 AM(GMT) the vessel remained aground. Whilst local authorities regularly inspect the vessel, no attempt has been made to refloat at this time.
