New Casualty - AMALIA - Fire - GA Declared

Incident Date:    19th December 2025

Vessel:                 AMALIA

Incident:             Fire – GA Declared

Type:                   Bulk Carrier

IMO No.:            9588354

W.E. Cox have been appointed by Cargo interests following an incident involving the AMALIA, a Malta flag, 22,223GT, 180m, bulk carrier vessel. The AMALIA suffered a fire on top of cargo hold no. 3 on 19th December 2025 whilst sailing from Houston, USA to Walvis Bay, Namibia.

The owners of the AMALIA have declared General Average (GA) and have appointed Richards Hogg Lindley as the GA Adjusters.

Fortunately, the fire on the AMALIA was extinguished by her crew and she has since resumed her voyage. We understand that some cargoes have suffered damage from the fire and/or firefighting water exposure but this is likely limited to those stowed above deck.

The AMALIA is owned by Antiopea Shipping Corporation and managed by Alloceans Shipping Company Limited. She trades along trans-Atlantic routes between the U.S. Gulf Coast and Southern Africa.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. As the situation has given rise to General Average, Cargo interests will be required to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
