W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the CELLUS, a German flag, 4,231GT, 369TEU, general cargo with container capacity vessel. The CELLUS was sailing from Brunsbüttel, Germany to Sunderland, United Kingdom when she ran aground in the port of Sunderland on 19th December 2025.

We understand that the CELLUS was carrying 5,500MT of wood pulp cargo at the time. We further understand that tugs were arranged to refloat the CELLUS and that she has now berthed at the Green Wells Quay.

The CELLUS is owned by Heike Braren GmbH & Company KG and managed by Roerd Braren Bereederungs GmbH & Company KG. She trades between various countries in Northern Europe.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that may require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
