W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the CMA CGM J.MADISON, a Malta flag, 141,950GT, 14,414TEU fully cellular containership vessel. The CMA CGM J.MADISON was enroute from Singapore to Port Khalifa, Dubai when she suffered a fire in the Straits of Malacca on 18th August 2025.

It is understood that the fire started in the CMA CGM J.MADISON’s cargo hold and has since been extinguished with the assistance of Salvors at SMIT, on commercial terms.

It is further understood that the CMA CGM J.MADISON is owned by Haohai International Ship Lease Company Limited and operated/managed by CMA CGM. She trades along the China Indian Middle East Express (CIMEX1) service route.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average security prior to cargo being released at destination.
