New Casualty - CNC URANUS - Grounding

W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the CNC URANUS, a Malta Flag, 18,870GT, 1,700TEU, 2017 built, fully cellular containership, enroute from China, which suffered a steering failure causing her to strike a red buoy and run aground between a retaining wall and a shallow bank near the mouth of the Karnaphuli River whilst attempting to berth at Chittagong, Bangladesh on 3rd August 2026.
Fortunately, no crew members were injured and following prompt assistance via local authorities, the CNC URANUS was refloated within 12 hours.
It is understood that at the time of the casualty the CNC URANUS was carrying around 1,282 containers.
The CNC URANUS is owned CMA CGM Asia Shipping Private Limited and managed by CMA CGM International Shipping Company Private Limited. She calls at various ports in CMA CGM’s Bengal Bay Express 3 (BBX3) route.
As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries may be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average security prior to cargo being released at destination.
