Type:                   Fully Cellular Containership

Incident:             Collapse of stow & Containers overboard

 

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel COSCO NAGOYA, a Panama flag, 2008 built, 40,165gt, fully cellular containership en route from Busan to Long Beach. The vessel experienced a major collapse of stow, resulting in a significant number of containers being lost overboard, in the Pacific, southeast of Iturup Island, Kuril Archipelago, Japan, and was diverted to Gwangyang, South Korea, arriving at a berth on 2nd December. It is anticipated that numerous containers remaining onboard will also have been affected.

It is unclear at this stage whether this incident will give rise to General Average or whether General Average will be declared.
