New Casualty - EVER LUNAR - Collapse and Loss of Stowed Containers

Incident Date:    2nd August 2025

Vessel:                 EVER LUNAR

IMO No.:            9629093

Type:                   Fully Cellular Containership

Incident:             Collapse and Loss of Stowed Containers

W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the EVER LUNAR, a Taiwan flag, 101,063GT, 8,508TEU fully cellular containership vessel. The EVER LUNAR sailed from Buenaventura, Colombia to Collao, Peru when 50 containers fell overboard from her aft section whilst waiting to enter the Callao harbour on 2nd August 2025.

It is understood that the EVER LUNAR was carrying about 7,000 containers and may have been subject to significant wave surges caused by an earthquake in Russia and/or rough winter sea conditions. Fortunately, no crew members were injured and none of the fallen containers carried hazardous cargo.

The EVER LUNAR is owned, managed and operated by Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Limited. She trades between the Asia- South America West Coast (WSA) routing network.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
