Incident Date:    25th October 2025

Vessel:                 GRANDE ROMA

IMO No.:             9247936

Type:                   Vehicle Carrier

Incident:             Engine Room Fire

W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the laden GRANDE ROMA, an Italian Flag vessel, 44,431GT, 196m, vehicle carrier, which reported an engine room fire on 25 October 2025 whilst sailing in the English Channel, UK en route from Antwerp, Belgium to Jebel Ali, UAE.

We understand that the fire was brought under control after the release of CO₂ and that there were no injuries or pollution resulting from this casualty.

The vessel is currently being towed to Le Havre, France. It is understood that a safety check in Antwerp, earlier this year, indicated issues with fire safety and 6 deficiencies were noted – it is not clear whether these deficiencies were fixed prior to her departure from Antwerp on 24 October.

We understand that the GRANDE ROMA is owned and managed by Grimaldi Euromed S.p.A. She trades in Europe, Asia, Mauritius and New Zealand.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average and Cargo interests may be required to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
