W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the HMM PLATINUM, a Liberia Flag, 52,467GT, 5,593TEU, 2013 built, fully cellular containership, enroute from Kattupali, India to Santos, Brazil, which recently suffered a fire on board. The extent of the damage to the HMM PLATINUM and all cargo on board has yet to be determined.

We understand that the HMM PLATINUM is currently sailing to Durban, South Africa, as a port of refuge, with an ETA on 8th October 2026.

The HMM PLATINUM is owned by H Platinum SA and managed by HMM Ocean Service Company Limited. She operates at various ports in HMM’s India-Far East / Intra-Asia service.

As a result of this recent casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to Salvage and/or General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide Salvage and/or General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
