New Casualty - IONIKOS - Loss of Containers

W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the IONIKOS, a Liberian flag, 40,560GT, 259.80m, fully cellular containership. We understand that the IONIKOS was hit by high waves on or around 25th February 2026 whilst sailing from Casablanca, Morocco to Spain.

We further understand that around 85 containers fell overboard and that recovery efforts are ongoing.

The IONIKOS is owned by Ionikos Maritime Limited and managed by Dioryx Maritime Services Corporation. She trades along routes between Turkey, Spain and West Africa.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average security prior to cargo being released at destination.
