New Casualty - KMAX EMPEROR collision with TRUE MARINER

W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the KMAX EMPEROR, a Liberia Flag, 51,1130GT, 229.5m, 2011 built, bulk carrier, which collided with the TRUE MARINER, a Barbados flag, 23,268GT, 179.97m, 2011 built, bulk carrier, off the Gujarat coast in the Gulf of Kutch, India on the 11th of September 2026.
It is understood that both the KMAX EMPEROR and the TRUE MARINER were anchored near each other for days and that the collision occurred after the KMAX EMPEROR left its anchorage and approached the TRUE MARINER at about 4 knots.
The collision caused the entanglement of both the KMAX EMPEROR and the TRUE MARINER’s anchor chains. It understood that this has since been resolved and that both the KMAX EMPEROR and the TRUE MARINER have returned to their anchorage.
It is further understood that the KMAX EMPEROR has sustained significant damage to its port side and that it has a slight list. Local authorities are assisting with the response operations.
The KMAX EMPEROR is owned and managed by Alpha Mare SA and operated by Cyprus Sea Lines S.A. The KMAX EMPEROR calls at various ports in Asia.
The TRUE MARINER is owned by Mariner Seaways S.A. and managed by Hope & Faith Maritime Limited. She calls at various ports in South America, West Africa, Mediterranean/Suez region and India.
As a result of this recent casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to Salvage and/or General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide Salvage and/or General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
