New Casualty - KYPARISSIA - Fire

W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the KYPARISSIA, a Malta flag, 48,338GT fully cellular containership which suffered a fire during unloading operations at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia 7th November 2025.

It is understood that the vessel, which has a capacity of 4,597teu is owned by Costamare and is operated under time charter by Maersk on their Asia to West Africa routing.

Fire fighting operations continue however, it has been confirmed that sadly three persons have been killed and a further three injured as a result of the casualty.

Investigations into the cause of the fire have commenced however, it is likely cargo deliveries will be delayed, with some cargoes known to have been damaged. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
