W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the LAUST MAERSK, a Hong Kong flag, 50,688GT fully cellular containership which experienced smoke in one of its cargo holds whilst approaching Charleston, USA 5th November 2025.

It is understood that the vessel, which has a capacity of 4,258teu is owned and is operated by Maersk having previously called at Cartagena and Manzanillo.

It is understood that the vessel is currently anchored outside of Charleston, whilst the fire is brought under control.

Investigations into the cause of the fire have commenced however, it is likely cargo deliveries will be delayed, with some cargoes known to have been damaged. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
