W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the MAERSK SANA, a Singapore Flag vessel, 93,511GT, 8,450TEU, fully cellular containership, which suffered an engine explosion on 28th April 2025 after sailing from Port Newark, USA.

We understand that the vessel is currently adrift near Bermuda and that the explosion had resulted in severe burn injuries to 3 crew members.

The MAERSK SANA is owned by AP Moller Singapore Private Limited and is managed by Maersk A/S. She trades in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico, Bahamas and the USA.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
