Incident:             Fire & Explosion

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel MSC PALATIUM III, a Liberia flag, 26,435gt, 2006 built, fully cellular containership which was reportedly hit by a missile whilst sailing near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The laden vessel, with a capacity of 2,500teu was sailing north from Kenya towards Jeddah when the incident occurred. It is understood that as a result of the attack, at least one container has been lost and the vessel has suffered a fire. The vessel has now changed direction and is heading South, although a new destination has yet to be announced.

As a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
