New Casualty - NORTHERN JUVENILE - Fire - LOF Salvage

Incident Date:    26th May 2024

Vessel:                NORTHERN JUVENILE

IMO No.             9450349

Type:                   Containership

Incident:             Fire

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel NORTHERN JUVENILE, a Portugal flag, 94419 gt, 2009 built, containership which reportedly caught fire on the 26th of May about 100 nautical miles southwest of Bande Aceh, Indonesia. We understand that the shipowners have entered into an LOF contract with professional salvors to provide firefighting and salvage assistance to the vessel.

The container vessel with a capacity of 8411teu is managed by V Ships and chartered by CMA CGM for its Asia-West Africa service. The vessel had previously called in Singapore after loading cargo in China at Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan and Nansha ports. As a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
