New Casualty - STAR BUENO - Grounding

Incident Date:    26th October 2025

Vessel:                 STAR BUENO

IMO No.:             9507544

Type:                   Bulk Carrier

Incident:             Grounding

W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the STAR BUENO, a Liberian Flag, 93,186GT, 291.97m, bulk carrier vessel, which ran aground on 26th October 2025 after its anchor dragged off Dung Quat, Vietnam whilst laden with 174,790 tons of iron ore and enroute from Saldanha Bay, South Africa.

We understand that the STAR BUENO was exposed to severe weather conditions. Local authorities utilised tugboats and managed to refloat the STAR BUENO, which is now at safe anchorage.

It is understood that there was water ingress in cargo hold nos. 1, 5 and 7 of the STAR BUENO – the water has since been pumped out. Given the exposure to strong monsoon winds and waves, full rescue plans are currently being discussed with the involvement of all relevant parties and authorities.

The STAR BUENO is owned by Starr Regg VI LLC and is managed by Starbulk S.A. She trades in Asia, South Africa and Australia.

As a result of this recent casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to Salvage and/or General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide Salvage and/or General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
