W.E. Cox have been appointed by Cargo interests following an incident involving the W KYRENIA, a Marshall Islands flag, 80,609GT, 6,802TEU, fully cellular containership vessel. The W KYRENIA suffered a blackout and/or damage to her emergency generator near Hong Kong on 4th December 2025 whilst sailing from various ports in Asia to Brazil, South America.

The owners of the W KYRENIA have declared General Average (GA) and have appointed Francis & Arnold Ltd as the GA Adjusters with Blue Seas Adjusters Ltd. as the collecting agents. We understand that the W KYRENIA will complete her intended voyage.

Online resources indicate that the W KYRENIA suffered an engine failure in May 2021 and engine overheating in May 2022.

The W KYRENIA is owned by Kauai Shipping Limited and operated by Maersk A/S. She trades between various countries, mainly in Asia and South America.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo loss and damage. As the situation has given rise to General Average, Cargo interests will be required to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
