We have learned of an incident involving the vessel WAN HAI 288, a Singapore flag, 20,899gt, 2021 built, fully cellular containership, which was involved in a collision with the RESURGENCE, a Bahamas flag, 9,443gt, 2002 built fully cellular containership in the Long Tau river, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam at around 5am local time 11th February 2023.

It is understood that the WAN HAI 288 with a capacity of 2.038teu and operated by Wan Hai Lines on their Japan Kansai-Vietnam (JSV) service had previously called at Japanese Ports, Korea, and Cambodia. She was departing Ho Chi Minh en-route to Taiwan when the collision occurred.

The RESURGENCE has a capacity of 920teu is managed by SITC. She was heading to Ho Chi Minh having previously called at Indonesia and Thailand when the collision occurred.

It is understood that WAN HAI 288 has sustained significant damage to both vessel and cargo and whilst being grounded immediately following the collision has been refloated and is now anchored at the scene awaiting inspection.

It is understood that RESURGENCE has been towed to Saigon for inspection. Cargo damage appears to be minimal however, the bow of RESURGENCE has significant damages.
