We have learned of an incident involving the vessel CAP JACKSON, a Singapore flag, 2010 built, 47,877gt fully cellular container ship, during a voyage from Freeport to Port Elizabeth. The vessel operates on the MPS service for Hapag-Lloyd and the MCPS service for Hamburg Sud, from Livorno, Italy, through the Panama Canal and north to ports in the USA and Canada.
CAP JACKSON was disabled by a fire in the auxiliary engine room on 29th July, while preparing to enter the Panama Canal. The vessel has now entered the port of Balboa on the Pacific side of the canal, where a repair plan will be established, and contingency measures made for cargo distribution.
