We have learned of a new incident involving the vessel KAMALA a 1999 built 24,724gt Fully Cellular Container Ship, which was reported with a fire in its deck containers in the early hours of 11th July, whilst en route from Surabaya, Indonesia to Ulsan, Korea.

The fire occurred whilst the vessel was transiting the East China Sea, 220 miles west of Kuchinoshima Island. The crew has remained on board to fight the fire and following a distress call fire fighting vessels have been dispatched by the Japanese Coast Guard.

Whilst the full extent of the salvage services are yet to be realised and whether security will be required or General Average may be declared. Nevertheless, should insurers determine that they are involved with cargo on board and W.E. Cox Claims Group can be of any assistance in arranging securities, surveys, adjusting potential losses or undertaking recovery please do not hesitate to contact us.
