KIEL EXPRESS / SAFMARINE MAKUTU

We have learned of a new incident involving the vessels KIEL EXPRESS and SAFMARINE MAKUTU, which allided in Port Botany, Australia on 14th October 2014.

KIEL EXPRESS is a Bermuda flag, 1991 built, 53,783gt Fully Cellular Containership, which had arrived in Australia from Taiwan and China.

SAFMARINE MAKUTU is a Singapore flag, 2007 built, 50,686gt Fully Cellular Containership, preparing to set sail for Japan, Korea and China.

It is reported that strong winds and heavy rain caused KIEL EXPRESS to break her moorings and drift across the bay until she came into contact with SAFMARINE MAKUTU.

Although there are no details reported yet, any damages could be quite serious.
