New Casualty - GRANDE SENEGAL - Aground

Incident Date:    22nd July 2023

Vessel:                 GRANDE SENEGAL

IMO No.             9377470

Type:                  RO-RO with container capacity

Incident:            Grounding

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel GRANDE SENEGAL, a 47,232gt Italian Flagged RO-RO with container capacity built in 2010, which has run aground on a reef approximately 20nm off the coast of North Yucatan, Mexico. It is understood that the vessel was sailing at 18 knots when she ran aground and that Salvors are on site in an attempt to re-float the vessel.

The vessel with capacity for 3,037 vehicles and 1,318teu was sailing from Altamira, Mexico to Brunswick, USA and as a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery, potential cargo damages and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
