New Casualty - True Confidence - Explosion

Incident Date:    6th March 2024

Vessel:                 True Confidence

IMO No.              9460784

Type:                   Bulk Carrier

Incident:             Explosion

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel True Confidence, a Barbados flag, 29104 gt, 2011 built, bulk carrier which experienced an explosion and sustained damage approximately 50 miles SW of Aden. Three members of crew are dead and three more are in critical condition after Houthi rockets hit the vessel. All remaining crew have abandoned ship and coalition naval vessels are engaged in what they described as a “rescue and salvage operation”.

The bulk carrier is operated by Third January Maritime Ltd and is entered with West of England for Protection and Indemnity purposes. The vessel was sailing from China to Jeddah and was carrying steel and large carriage units. As a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
