Casualty Update - MARIE MAERSK - GA Declared

Incident: Fire – General Average Declared
Further to our initial advice regarding a fire on board the MARIE MAERSK, a Denmark flag, 194,849GT, 18,270TEU fully cellular containership which was enroute from Rotterdam, Netherlands to Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia 13th August 2025, we have now been notified by Maersk that they have declared General Average.
The MARIE MAERSK will proceed to Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia with a current ETA of 13th September.
Cargo destined for Tanjung Pelepas will not be released for delivery and cargo scheduled for on-carriage to other destinations will not be permitted to released until suitable General Average Security is provided on behalf of cargo interests.
W.E. Cox are already representing a number of cargo interests with both sound and damaged cargoes and are actively liaising with Maersk and their appointed representatives as well as the GA Adjusters to ensure that sound cargoes are released and damaged cargoes are inspected at the earliest opportunity.
