Vessel:                 MISSISSIPPI

IMO No.:            9954187

Type:                   Fully Cellular Containership

Incident:             Loss of Containers

We have learned of an incident involving the MISSISSIPPI, a Madeira flag, 52,228gt, 2024 built, fully cellular containership, which has suffered a loss of containers overboard whilst at the ITS Container Terminal, Long Beach California on 9th September 2025.

The MISSISSIPPI, which has a capacity of 5,500teu, operates on the Asia Express ZEX route on behalf of Zim Lines and had recently arrived from China when a number of container stacks collapsed leading to at least 67 containers falling into the water, with further containers falling onto an adjacent barge and the dock. Two stacks of containers remain precariously overhanging on the MISSISSIPPI.

The incident will give rise to significant cargo damages and likely lead to delays in delivery of cargoes.
